AJAXWorld Conference Wraps Up

… with nothing exciting to report.
Most of the keynote speakers were just marketing folks trying to sell us their pre-packaged “enterprise mashup” products. By the way, “mashup” was the buzz word for the week. Apparently I missed that boat where “mashups” became the next hot thing. (“mashup” = code that combines several data feeds into one).
I was impressed with the ICEFaces folks though. They have a pre-packaged set of JSF components which are AJAX aware and can be implemented into any existing JSF application. The components are pretty good looking and fully styleable. More importantly though, they provide a complib with their components so you get drag and drop functionality / fully functional previewing in NetBeans 6.0. They also had a pretty cool demo using an IPhone and a Sprint Mogul (a PocketPC based phone) where they used an AJAX web app to actually push data to the device (rather then having the device request data)… very innovative. They’re going places…
Also, there’s a new startup based out of the Netherlands called BackBase. They have a pretty impressive AJAX library available and are working on JSF implementations for it… so that may be promising.
NexaWeb had some cool looking stuff, but all of their people were rude to us whenever we stopped by so we just wrote them off.
Microsoft was there to promote SilverLight. It’s a neat technology that lets you write some web apps that behave much more like a flash app or a desktop app… the only problem is that you need a plugin for it to work.
Anywho… that’s enough for now. Stuck at the airport, I’ll write more later.
